While experienced in many different skill sets, it was clear early in Joe’s career that his greatest passions and talents lay in the realms of marksmanship and close quarters battle. Joe spent most of his career refining and implementing these skills and was eventually called back to Fort Liberty (Then Fort Bragg) to be an instructor. There, he served as the Chief Marksmanship Instructor at the prestigious Special Forces Advanced Reconnaissance, Target Analysis, and Exploitation Techniques (SFARTAETC) school, at just 27 years of age.
It was during this time as an instructor, where Joe developed a passion for the game of golf. Originally from Plattsburgh, NY, Joe grew up in a region that was lucky to get 5-6 months of golfing weather per year, and where hockey was a way of life. While he enjoyed the game of golf and played in his youth, he did not begin to take the sport seriously until his tour of duty as an instructor back stateside.
As he developed his skills on the course, Joe began to realize that the game was also becoming a way to help process the previous years of constant deployments and became his primary outlet for decompression and relaxation, which only further developed his passion for the game.
Joe eventually decided to leave military life and pursue a career in the golf industry. He received an Honorable Discharge in 2018 and enrolled in the Professional Golf Management program at Campbell University. While graduating with honors in both the BBA and MBA programs, it was during his time at Campbell and through various internships that Joe had the privilege to study under some of the very best golf instructors in the country, including Terry Rowles, Mike Adams, and David Orr.
As his reputation began to grow in the region, Joe’s teaching skills were recognized by Jeff Dotson, the Director of Golf at the legendary Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst. Joe was hired as the club’s first ever Director of Instruction in January 2020 and continues to teach full-time at CCNC today.
Joe established Precision Fairways with the vision of sharing two of his life’s passions and expert skillsets with others who value them, while simultaneously creating a medium to provide financial assistance to his fellow combat veterans struggling with service connected health issues.
Joe resides in the Pinehurst area with his wife, Sarah, and their two children, Danial and Hailey.
